XS Malarkey: Where Manchester Comedy Comes to Play

If Tuesday nights in Manchester had a personality, it would be XS Malarkey. Sharp, welcoming, slightly chaotic in the best way — and absolutely essential to the city’s comedy heartbeat.

Hosted at the brilliant 53two, XS Malarkey isn’t just a comedy night; it’s a proving ground, a playground, and a proper community. This is where new material gets tested, big laughs are earned, and audiences are trusted to come along for the ride — wherever that ride might go.

Toussaint was absolutely brilliant 👏

What makes XS Malarkey special is its spirit. The room buzzes with possibility. You never quite know what you’re going to get, but you do know it’ll be interesting, inclusive, and very funny. One minute it’s sharp political takes, the next it’s surreal nonsense, heartfelt storytelling, or a punchline that completely blindsides you. It’s comedy with freedom — and that freedom shows.

The atmosphere is key. XS Malarkey audiences are switched on, generous, and ready to laugh. There’s a shared understanding that this is a space for ideas to breathe and grow. Comics feel supported, risks feel safe, and even when something doesn’t quite land, the room stays kind. That balance is rare — and it’s precious.

Over the years, XS Malarkey has become a cornerstone of Manchester’s comedy scene. It nurtures emerging talent while welcoming established acts who want to try something new. It champions diversity of voices and styles, and it does so without fuss or fanfare — just by consistently showing up and doing the work.

And then there’s the joy of it. The laughter that makes your face ache. The moments you’re still thinking about on the tram home. The feeling that you’ve been part of something live, unpredictable, and shared. On a Tuesday night, no less.

Tickets are available through the XS Malarkey website

In a city overflowing with creativity, XS Malarkey stands out by staying true to what comedy should be: bold, communal, welcoming, and alive. Long may it continue to cause malarkey — extra small in name only.

Thanks to Toby, Ros, John, Jay, and George for their ongoing work and support to the weekly shows, which are just fabulous 👌 Sorry if I missed anyone!
